The Ultimate Puerto Rico Travel Hub

Discover the "Island of Enchantment"—from the cobblestone streets and 16th-century fortresses of the capital to the legendary surf breaks of the golden west coast.

Puerto Rico (Isla del Encanto) is a vibrant, soul-stirring Caribbean archipelago where historic Spanish colonial charm seamlessly intertwines with deep-rooted Taíno and African heritage. The island pulses with a rhythm of its own, driven by the sounds of salsa, reggaeton, and the nightly chorus of the native coquí tree frog. Here, you can spend your morning exploring the lush, waterfall-draped trails of El Yunque—the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System—and your afternoon catching world-class waves or kayaking through glowing bioluminescent bays. It is a destination of profound cultural warmth, unparalleled culinary flavors, and breathtaking coastal beauty.

Essential Puerto Rico Travel Tips

Need-to-know information before you board your flight.

Passports: Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, meaning U.S. citizens do not need a passport to visit—only a standard government-issued ID (like a driver's license).

Transportation: While San Juan is highly walkable and has Uber, if you plan to explore the island (like driving to Rincon or El Yunque), renting a car is absolutely essential. Public transportation outside the capital is virtually nonexistent.

Both Spanish and English are the official languages. In tourist-heavy areas like San Juan, almost everyone speaks English fluently. However, as you venture into smaller towns like Rincon or the central mountains, Spanish becomes the dominant language. Learning a few basic Spanish phrases (like Buenos días, Por favor, and Gracias) will go a long way in showing respect and receiving the legendary "Boricua" hospitality.

Puerto Rican cuisine is a rich melting pot of Taíno, Spanish, and African flavors. You cannot leave the island without trying Mofongo (mashed fried green plantains usually stuffed with garlic shrimp or pork), and Lechón asado (slow-roasted pork). For drinks, remember that the Piña Colada was invented in San Juan! Also, be sure to try a local Medalla beer on a hot beach day.
